Because we want children to have the joy of just being kids again, we raise funds from businesses and private donations to provide Fun Support Activities for the abused and neglected children who come to For The Child for help. During the summer months our neediest children and teens receive scholarships to participate in team sports, tiny tots swimming, dance lessons, YMCA memberships, music lessons, camp and other activities that build self-confidence and encourage health, healing and making new friends. Our therapists are thrilled to have this opportunity for the children in treatment, because it gives them relaxation, an outlet for stress, and develops life skills. The activities are chosen to be complimentary to a child’s therapy and to help them with their healing.
Our volunteers assemble back-packs with school supplies to help children in our program with back –to-school needs to support school success. They package and deliver Thanksgiving food baskets for financially needy families in our programs- and they serve as elves at our Holiday Toy Workshop, where stressed, low income families nominated by their therapists come “shop” for toys and gifts for all the children and teenagers in their family. Family photo events with professional photographers donating services bring smiles to the faces of Moms, Dads and children who have never had a real family portrait before.
Sometimes a parent and children has to quickly leave a dangerous living situation or they may have a difficult medical problem. When clothing, food, household supplies, a wheelchair or other items are needed, an alert to our volunteers and supporters is sent to gather the items needed.
Helping children and families thrive with life beyond therapy is part of our mission, and there are many ways that you can help.
